Sagging and other signs of ageing within the neck and jowls is something many people suffer from and is a natural part of the ageing process. But seeing a ‘turkey neck’ in the mirror can really affect your confidence. There are plenty of options out there to help you tone and rejuvenate the look of the skin on your neck, but none of them delivers the level of results and effectiveness of neck lift surgery.

A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that allows patients to improve the tautness of the skin on the neck by tightening the facial muscles around the neck, in order to create more toned and youthful appearance.

During neck lift surgery, your practitioner will create incisions on either side of the face, which are carefully hidden in the creases just in front of the ears and connected through an incision which runs behind the ear and hidden within the hairline. Following this, the surgeon will begin the muscle tightening process, by locating and tightening the facial muscles responsible for the tone of the neck. Once the muscles have been tightened, excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed and left to heal. Sometimes liposuction is carried out together with the neck lift to further refine the result.

In addition, some patients may require a small incision in the crease under the chin. This is needed to correct the loose bands of muscle which can often be seen in the neck. This is called a platysmaplasty, which means a repair of the platysma muscle.

Like many cosmetic procedures, neck lift surgery also comes with some potential risks that also need to be considered before deciding to undergo the treatment. Possible side-effects involved with neck lift surgery include swelling, bruising, the chance of infection, skin tightening, change in skin sensation and potential damage to facial muscles and nerves. However, choosing a highly trained practitioner with many years of experience, and properly following their aftercare guidelines, will significantly lower these risks.

My Jag Chana, a leading provider of neck lift surgery, said of the procedure:

“Neck lifts are becoming more and more popular, not least because of the rising age of the population, and how looking after ourselves has become a priority at any age. Plastic surgery is more socially acceptable than ever before too. All this together has seen an increase in neck lift surgery, and with good reason. Neck lift surgery can be a great procedure that allows patients to vastly improve the appearance of their ageing neck, to a level that no other cosmetic treatment or procedure can provide.”

“There are many positives that patients may experience as result of undergoing neck lift surgery. Not only will patients see a vast improvement and rejuvenation of their neck, but it is a long-term solution.”

“Patients may also gain confidence as a result of neck lift treatment. Seeing the signs of ageing can be frustrating, and can really affect your confidence. Many patients feel the signs of ageing are premature; neck lift surgery gives patients the opportunity to reverse them.”
